Support CFAB (ISS UK) by seeing Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night

CFAB is the official charity partner of the newly founded Swivel Theatre Company. Swivel aims to support charities through its performances and will be donating some of the proceeds of their next production to CFAB! After the astounding success of Othello last year Swivel is back with its second production which will see Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night return to the London fringe scene…but as you’ve never seen it before!

This production sets the country of Illyria in 1920s Morocco, giving a whole new resonance to the play. Viola washes ashore a country where a woman must dress as a man in order to work and to earn money. Set in the searing heat of North Africa, where men and women’s roles in society are very strictly defined, this comedy of errors will be presented in a whole new context. We will explore questions of gender identity and sexual ambiguity in a rich and vibrant cultural setting.

Swivel’s unique interpretation will be a feast of live music throughout from a traditional Moroccan band, dance and raucous laughter! Not to be missed!

This classic Shakespeare comedy will be at the Cockpit Theatre, Gateforth Street (Off Church Street), Marylebone, London for 3 weeks previewing on 29th February 2012, with press night on 1st March. The show closes on the 18th March and there will be no shows on Mondays. Curtains up at 7.30pm.

Stop op zoekacties Sri Lanka

December 2011 - Vanwege het grote aantal zoekacties dat op dit moment in Sri Lanka loopt, heeft ISS Nederland besloten vanaf 1 januari 2012 geen nieuwe zoekacties meer voor dit land aan te nemen. Op deze wijze hopen wij onze correspondent de tijd te geven om reeds lopende zoekacties spoedig tot een goed einde te brengen.

Wanneer ISS Nederland weer start met het aannemen van verzoeken voor zoekacties in Sri Lanka is op dit moment niet bekend.

International Council Assembly and Conference 2012

The ISS International Council (members of ISS) assembles somewhere in the world every two years. The last two ISS Council meetings were at Cape Town, South Africa and Hong Kong. In May 2012, the International Council will meet at the Banff Centre in Banff, Alberta, Canada. This will be the first ever assembly of the ISS International Council in the Americas. In conjunction with its regular meeting, this ISS event will include and Open Conference, inviting social service providers in the Americas to join their peers from around the world for a unique international experience. The Conference theme is:

The Growing Wave - Global Human Migration
"its impact on planning, design and delivery of our social programs"

The Open Conference portion of this event will invite social workers, social planners, policy-makers, educators and administrators from learning institutions, not-for-profit organizations, social service agencies and authorities (government and other) across the Americas to join their global colleagues for a unique learning and sharing experience (target number for Open Conference delegates is 200 - 300).

Afwezigheid correspondent Indonesië

September 2011 - De correspondent die zoekacties uitvoert in Indonesië heeft aangegeven dat zij van 22 september 2011 tot en met december 2011 afwezig zal zijn. Nieuwe zoekacties zullen derhalve pas vanaf januari 2012 gestart worden.

Verzoeken tot een zoekactie in Indonesië kunnen gewoon bij de Fiom ingediend worden. Wij zullen de informatie doornemen en waar wij het nodig achten meer informatie verzoeken. Deze nieuwe zoekacties zullen vervolgens in januari 2012 naar de correspondent in Indonesië gezonden worden.

Supervisormeeting Belgrado, Servië

September 2011 - Van maandag 19 tot en met woensdag 21 september zal in Belgrado, Servië, de jaarlijkse supervisor meeting plaatsvinden. ISS supervisors uit verschillende landen zullen onderwerpen waar het ISS netwerk zich mee bezig houdt, bespreken. Naast de supervisors van een aantal branches en affiliated bureaus zullen dit jaar ook verschillende correspondenten aanwezig zijn.

Nog geen correspondent in Italië

Juli 2011 – Al geruime tijd ontbeert het ISS netwerk een partner in Italië. De organisatie die in het verleden correspondent van ISS was, heeft in 2010 definitief haar deuren gesloten.

Het General Secretariat in Geneve heeft het afgelopen jaar intensieve onderhandelingen gevoerd met het Rode Kruis in Italië. Deze onderhandelingen zijn gestaakt toen Italië te maken kreeg met de stroom vluchtelingen uit Noord-Afrika. Helaas is inmiddels gebleken dat het Rode Kruis geen mogelijkheden ziet om in de nabije toekomst het ISS netwerk te versterken. Zij heeft niet de financiële middelen noch het aantal werknemers dat nodig is om een sterke ISS partner te zijn.

Inmiddels is het General Secretariat in contact met een andere Italiaanse organisatie. Het kan echter nog geruime tijd duren voor ISS weer een partner in Italië heeft. Om deze reden kunnen wij helaas geen verzoeken met betrekking tot dit land aannemen.

Watersnood in Sri Lanka

Januari 2011 - Sinds afgelopen november regent het flink in Sri Lanka, maar de afgelopen periode is de moessonregen extreem te noemen. Daardoor is het waterpeil gaan stijgen en zijn grote delen van het gebied ondergestroomd. Van meer dan een miljoen mensen zijn huis en bezittingen beschadigd geraakt of verloren gegaan.

Het district Batticaloa, in het oosten van Sri Lanka, is het zwaarst getroffen. Meer dan 75% van de bevolking in dit district is in de problemen gekomen door het water. Voor zover bekend is er sprake van een beperkt aantal slachtoffers, maar sommige gebieden zijn nog volledig afgesloten van communicatie met de buitenwereld.

Deze rampzalige situatie maakt het zoeken naar biologische familieleden in een groot deel van het land voorlopig onmogelijk. Verzoeken tot nieuwe zoekacties kunnen wel gewoon ingediend worden. Zoekers worden geïnformeerd zodra er nieuws is in hun zoekactie.

Sinds juni 2011 is het gebied weer begaanbaar.
